Billy Cameron at Rowan Manufacturing explains how working with SAM MDF products helped them reduce wastage and improve efficiency within their factory.
1. What was it like before you had SAM primed products?
We used timber frames before we used SAM MDF products. Softwood is prone to shakes and splits and there was a lot of wastage in terms of product and time taken to fill it.
2. What problem(s) were you trying to solve with SAM primed MDF mouldings?
We needed to reduce wastage and improve our efficiency within the factory.
3. Where did you start your search?
At the time, we already purchased our facings from SAM, so it was just a matter of switching to the linings and stops.
4.What made SAM stand out from other options?
Initially, it was the price of the product. The relationship we have built up over time has held onto the business.
5. What would you say to someone looking to bring SAM onboard?
My experience with SAM has been very positive. They offer an efficient and reliable service.
6. What makes you happiest about working with SAM?
The flow of information. They are very good at acknowledging orders, sending delivery notifications and keeping everybody aware of what is going on.
7. What have you been able to achieve since using SAM products?
By moving from timber to SAM primed MDF, we were able to increase capacity using the same team of people as it eliminated the extra work involved and the additional factory processes needed to get the timber ready for site.
8. What has exceeded your expectations since working with SAM?
SAM’s commitment to providing us with the service that we request. A few years ago, they were experiencing issues associated with growth and demand and their lead times started to go out during busy times, such as Christmas. To fix the issues, they committed to manufacturing a certain amount of volume through their factory for us each week and they have stuck to it ever since. We can be rest assured that we will get that set amount of product every week.
9.What’s the main reason you recommend SAM?
Their service! I can get cheaper prices elsewhere, but the service keeps me with SAM.
